Paul S. first attended the State University of New York at Oswego from 1985 to 1989, where they received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Chemistry. Following this, from 1989 to 1994, they pursued a Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During this time, they specialized in Organic Synthesis under the guidance of Professor Michael T. Crimmins. Finally, from 1994 to 1997, they continued their education as a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University, focusing on Organic Synthesis with Professor David A. Evans as their research advisor.
