John Burton

Senior Consultant at Rutherford + Chekene

A key member of R+C’s geotechnical department since its early stages, John has over 40 years of experience coordinating and performing site subsurface investigations, geotechnical engineering analyses, foundation design, construction observation, geologic hazards evaluations, seismic ground motion and hazard studies, and peer reviews. He has also performed forensic investigations and provided expert witness testimony for legal cases.

John brings a high level of hands-on involvement and responsiveness to his projects. His portfolio includes projects throughout the Bay Area and beyond. He has worked on iconic California projects including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hanna House, Hearst Mining Building at UC Berkeley, and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. He also served in a lead geotechnical role on the new Air Traffic Control Tower at SFO and Stanford University’s Windhover Contemplative Center.
