Kirsten Carter is an accomplished marine policy expert currently serving as the Head of UK Marine Policy at RSPB since June 2021, leading a comprehensive marine policy programme. Carter has significant experience in advocacy and policy development, having previously held the position of Principal Marine Policy Officer at RSPB, where advocacy on marine and fisheries issues was a key focus. In addition, Carter is a member of the Regional Advisory Board for the North at National Trust and has managed the Living Seas team at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, overseeing initiatives on Marine Protected Areas and public engagement. Previous roles include reviewing academic papers for Peer J, advising the North Eastern Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority, and contributing as a specialist advisor on marine pollution. Educated at Aberystwyth University, Carter holds a master's degree in environmental management with a specialization in marine, coastal, and wetlands, in addition to a BSc in marine and freshwater biology.
