Aliyu Salisu Barau is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, with extensive experience in urban and environmental planning since October 2018. Barau also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the same institution since April 2014. In addition to academic roles, Barau is a Commission Member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and a member of the UNFCCC Roster of Experts. As a Chartered Town Planner with the Royal Town Planning Institute, Barau advocates for ecosystem restoration and tree conservation in collaboration with various organisations, including Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. Barau holds a PhD in Environmental Planning and Urban Sustainability from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, where a focus on teaching and collaborative research in urban and environmental change was pursued.
