Ruth Browne's work experience begins in 1992 as a Consultant for Funders Concerned About AIDS. Ruth then went on to become the Founding CEO of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health in 1993, a position they held until 2016. In 2007, Browne started working as an Associate Professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. In 2015, they served as the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation Policymaker in Residence at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy for a brief period. Finally, in 2016, Browne became the President and CEO of Ronald McDonald House New York, where they currently hold the position.

Ruth Browne has a strong educational background in public health and public policy. Ruth earned a Doctor of Science degree in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2000. Prior to this, they obtained a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy in 1983. Ruth also completed another Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan School of Public Health in the same year. Ruth Browne's educational journey began with an undergraduate degree in International Development Studies from Princeton University, which they received in 1981.
