Greg McGary has a diverse and extensive work experience in software engineering and toolchain development. Greg is currently working as a Toolchain Engineer at Rivos Inc. since March 2022. Before that, they were a Software Engineer at Meta from August 2015 to December 2021.

Greg also has experience in toolchain development for low-power VLIW DSPs. Greg worked as the GNU & QEMU Toolchain lead at iCelero from May 2011 to June 2015, where they rewrote and maintained the full GNU toolchain, QEMU simulator, and ancillary program development tools.

Earlier in their career, Greg worked at Ericsson (acquired Redback Networks) as a GNU & QEMU Toolsmith from September 2000 to June 2012. Their role involved porting and maintaining full GNU toolchains for custom multicore packet-processor ASICs, as well as porting QEMU for CPU simulation purposes.

Greg also has experience as a GNU Toolsmith at PA Semi from November 2004 to November 2008 and at Ascend Communications from December 1995 to September 2000. In these roles, they maintained and enhanced GNU cross tools for multiple CPUs and rewrote makefiles for large codebases.
