Mikael Thor currently serves as the Director of Systems and Autonomy at Rivian since November 2024. Prior to this role, Mikael held multiple senior engineering management positions at Woven by Toyota, where responsibilities included leading vehicle engineering, systems and safety engineering, and vehicle platform software within the advanced AD/ADAS sector from July 2021 to October 2024. Mikael's previous experience includes serving as Engineering Manager and Lead Controls Engineer in Lyft's Level 5 self-driving division between May 2018 and June 2021, as well as working at Volvo Car Group from July 2012 to April 2018 as a Senior Function Developer and Function Developer focused on active safety and vehicle dynamics. Academic credentials include a PhD in Automatic Control and a Master of Science in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering, both from Chalmers University of Technology.
