Saskia D. currently serves as Chief Advisor in Research and Development at Rio Tinto, a position held since November 2007, and has held several managerial roles within the company, including Manager of Ore Body Knowledge & Systems Optimization, Manager of Integrated Operations, Manager of Smelter Technical, and Superintendent of both Technical and Fixed Plant operations. Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Saskia D. worked as Operations General Supervisor and Chief Metallurgist at Barrick Gold Corporation from May 2004 to November 2007. Additionally, an academic career was established at the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor from August 1997 to May 2004. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, alongside a Doctor of Philosophy in Extractive Metallurgy & Minerals Processing and a Master of Science in Minerals Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
