Laila Burger is an accomplished professional with extensive expertise in geotechnical engineering and major hazard management. Currently serving as Senior Manager for Major Hazards in Global Closure at Rio Tinto since March 2021, Laila has held several leadership roles including acting Senior Manager and Principal Advisor for Tailings and Geotech SME. Prior experience includes positions as Senior Geotechnical Engineer for Australia and Europe Impoundments at Alcoa, and various engineering roles at GHD, Fortescue Metals Group, Golder, and Atkins. Laila holds a Master of Science in Engineering Geology and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geology, both from the University of Leeds.
