Iuma Martinez Germano, PhD, serves as the Principal Advisor Discovery in the Office of the Chief Scientist at Rio Tinto since June 2022. As the Founder and Director of Giscapetown since January 2005, Iuma specializes in geospatial data analysis and GIS development across various industries. Iuma has notable experience as the Director of Data Management at Tsodilo Resources Pty Ltd from 2005 to 2019 and previously worked as a GIS Specialist and Data Processor in the oil and gas sector with Fugro from 2002 to 2005. Academic contributions include serving as an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town and holding various GIS-related roles since 1996. Iuma holds a PhD in Geology, Geochemistry, Engineering (Civil), and Geographic Information Systems from the University of Cape Town. Additionally, Iuma has completed two feature film scripts and two series treatments as an independent filmmaker between 2012 and 2019.
