The Reece School is one of the oldest non-profit special education elementary schools in New York City. It was founded in 1948 by Ellen S. Reece and was housed for nearly 60 years in the home she owned on East 93rd Street.

The Reece School provides a highly academic elementary special education program for children who need more support than can be provided in a traditional public school setting. Reece students are academically capable but may be psychologically fragile or have issues impacting their ability to fully access their education in their current school placement. At Reece, children with speech/language impairments or who have emotional, learning or other disabilities are given high levels of academic, social and emotional support in a nurturing and well-structured environment.

The Special Education Team at Reece School is dedicated to providing individualized academic and emotional support to students with diverse learning needs. This team comprises Special Education Teachers, a Teaching Assistant, a Behavior Specialist, a Positive Behavior Support Coordinator, and a Paraprofessional, who collaborate to create a nurturing and structured environment. They employ personalized teaching strategies and behavior interventions to help each child achieve their full potential.
