Christopher Smothers

Christopher Smothers is a dedicated genealogist and historian, currently serving as a Member of the Board of Directors for Reclaim The Records, a not-for-profit organization advocating for public access to genealogical records. Christopher has held the position of Charter Genealogist at Ancestree Detectives since December 2020 and has been the Chief Executive Officer of Unearthing Your Roots, Inc. since March 2018. Notable recent experience includes a role as Research Lead Coordinator at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, collaborating with Prof. Doug Blackmon on a study of forced laborer communities. Christopher has also contributed as an Educator at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and a Summer Research Intern at Princeton University, working with Dr. Laura Giles. Christopher holds multiple degrees, including a Master's in Library and Information Science and a Master's in History, both from Simmons University, and completed a Certificate Program in Genealogical Research at Boston University.
