Nick Hassam has extensive work experience in the re/insurance industry, with a focus on managing exposure to climate risk. Nick is currently the Head of Re/Insurance Products at Reask, where they are responsible for developing cutting-edge solutions for carriers and intermediaries. Prior to this role, they co-founded and served as the Chief Commercial Officer at Reask.
Before joining Reask, Nick founded and served as the CEO of Risk Spatial Pty Ltd, a company that aimed to extend the use of spatial science in various industries. The company was acquired by Reask in 2018.
Nick also gained experience as a Senior Catastrophe Analyst at Willis Re and as the Manager of GIS Services in the Government of South Australia. Nick held roles such as the Head of Catastrophe Modeling/Exposure Management at Talbot Underwriting and Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst at Guy Carpenter.
Earlier in their career, Nick worked as a GIS Consultant at ESRI (UK) and East Sussex County Council, and as a GIS Analyst at the Department of Planning, Transport, and Infrastructure (DPTI). Overall, they have a diverse background in GIS, catastrophe risk analysis, and re/insurance product development.
Nick Hassam has a well-rounded education history. Nick started their education journey at the University of South Australia from 1994 to 1998, where they obtained a Diploma of Applied Science in Spatial Information Systems. Afterward, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Geographic Information Science at Birkbeck, University of London from 2005 to 2007. Additionally, Nick completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration at the University of Adelaide between 2010 and 2012.
In addition to their degrees, Nick Hassam has also earned several certifications. In 2007, they obtained the Lloyd's and London Market Introductory Test certification from the Chartered Insurance Institute. Continuing their professional development, in 2011, they obtained a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification from the Henley Management Group. In 2016, Nick acquired the Geographic Information Systems Professional (Asia Pacific) certification from the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI). Finally, in 2022, they completed The Fundamentals of Insurance-Linked Securities certification from the Belarusian State University.
