Bárbara Fernandes Cordeiro, PhD, has a diverse work experience in the scientific and medical fields. Bárbara started their career as a Researcher at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in 2008, where they conducted research focused on developing new medications for the treatment of inflammatory lung diseases. During this time, they gained extensive knowledge in immunology, pharmacology, and pathology, and published scientific articles in international journals.
In 2011, Bárbara worked as a Human Embryologist at the Instituto de Saúde da Mulher | Cegonha Medicina Reprodutiva, where they performed clinical procedures related to assisted human reproduction and managed the laboratory. Bárbara also collaborated with medical professionals to determine the best treatment strategies for each patient. Their expertise in this area allowed their to teach courses and give lectures to students and professionals in the field.
From 2016 to 2021, Bárbara served as a Research and Development Scientist at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Bárbara was involved in projects related to Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I), specifically focusing on developing probiotic dairy products for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory bowel diseases. Their outstanding work on this project earned their recognition and awards, including the Honorable Mention in the Grande Prêmio UFMG de Teses and the Best Thesis in Innovation Award at UFMG in 2022. Bárbara also obtained patents for the developed products and published numerous scientific articles in high-impact international journals.
Prior to their role at the university, Bárbara worked as a New Technology Analyst at CTIT UFMG from 2020 to 2022. In this position, they were responsible for the technical and scientific analysis of new products and molecules developed at UFMG in the fields of biotechnology, medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine. Bárbara worked closely with researchers to understand these products and their medical-scientific differentials. Additionally, they conducted freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, prepared technical opinions on the products, developed strategies for intellectual property protection, drafted patent applications, and prepared registrability reports for KHs. Bárbara also participated in the process of identifying partners interested in the transfer and commercialization of these products.
From 2022 to 2023, Bárbara worked as a Clinical Sales Consultant at Lab Rede, where they utilized their scientific background to advise and sell clinical products. Currently, they hold the position of New Technology Specialist at Rayner, starting in May 2023.

Bárbara Fernandes Cordeiro, PhD, has an extensive education history. Bárbara pursued their Bachelor's degree in Biology/ Biological Sciences at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais from 2008 to 2013. Following this, they specialized in Human Reproduction at the RedLara - Rede Latinoamericana de Reprodução Assistida from 2013 to 2015. Bárbara then proceeded to complete their Master's degree in BioPharmaceutical Innovation and Intellectual Property at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais from 2016 to 2018. Building on their Master's degree, they continued their education at the same institution, completing their PhD in BioPharmaceutical Innovation in 2021.
