rain is South Africa’s first and largest 5G home and newest 4G national mobile network operator. 

The name rain name comes from the Sotho proverb, ‘khotso pula nala’, which translates to ‘peace, rain, prosperity. 

rain’s mission is to make data more accessible to more people, because access to an abundance of affordable internet will grow the economy and long-term prospects for all South Africans. We believe that access to technology has the power to change lives and, given the right tools, South Africans can do anything.

In 2018, rain launched SA’s first 4G data only network. 

In 2019, we launched the first commercial 5G network in Africa. We are currently the largest provider of 5G fixed wireless services in South Africa. We currently provide 5G coverage to over 7 million households and will continue to grow our network. 

In 2023, we launched our NEW 4G mobile network with national coverage, offering high-definition voice, with FREE monthly calls and data for 2 phones.
