Batur Oktay has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several industries since 1993. Batur began their career as a Law Clerk at Kitsap County Superior Court in 1993 before moving on to work as an Associate at Kitsap County Public Defender, where they successfully argued jury trials and conducted hearings related to criminal offenses.
In 1994, Batur joined Foster Pepper PLLC as an Associate, specializing in litigation practice areas such as employment, commercial, securities, intellectual property, real estate, and environmental law. Batur served as the primary litigator for the firm's opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Batur's career then took him to Adobe in 1998, where they held the position of Senior Corporate Counsel. In this role, they headed the global anti-piracy program and managed intellectual property litigation, overseeing a team of lawyers, paralegals, and investigators.
After four years at Adobe, Batur moved to Starbucks in 2002. Batur served in various legal roles over the course of nearly two decades, including Director, Corporate Counsel, Expert Director, Corporate Counsel, and ultimately Managing Director, Corporate Counsel. During their time at Starbucks, Batur managed the global intellectual property program, overseeing a team of lawyers and paralegals in the U.S. and China. Batur also provided counsel on global innovation and brand strategy, as well as serving on various business leadership teams.
Batur's most recent experience is with Rad Power Bikes, where they started as VP, Deputy General Counsel in September 2021 before being promoted to the role of VP, Interim General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in December 2021. Currently, they hold the title of VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. In this position, they serve on the Executive Leadership Team and advises the CEO, management, and Board of Directors. Batur leads the law department, managing a team of lawyers responsible for various legal matters including commercial, compliance, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, marketing, mergers and acquisitions, privacy, and more. Batur also acts as Corporate Secretary, providing legal support to the Board of Directors and its committees, and overseeing risk management and government affairs.
Throughout their career, Batur Oktay has presented at numerous conferences on topics including acquisition due diligence, advertising/regulatory, China strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation, intellectual property, and leadership.
Batur Oktay's education history includes obtaining a Doctor of Law - JD, Cum Laude from the University of Maine School of Law. They also earned a Bachelor of Arts - BA from the University of St Andrews. Additionally, they have a Bachelor of Arts - BA from the University of Virginia, with a field of study in Foreign Affairs and Art History.
