Andrew Hessel is a advisor at Quantified Citizen and was formerly the founding director at Pink Army Cooperative from January 2009 to January 2016. The Pink Army Cooperative is an open biotechnology enterprise working to accelerate breast cancer drug development. They explore the intersection of synthetic biology and new business models in an attempt to reboot drug development so that it can produce better outputs faster and cheaper. Prior to their work at the Pink Army Cooperative, Hessel was a biostrategy consultant at the Alberta Research Council from July 2008 to December 2008 where they developed a synthetic biology strategy and research program. Before that, they worked at the Alberta Ingenuity Fund from February 2007 to July 2008 on founding and supporting iGEM teams in Alberta as well as raising awareness of synthetic biology with key academic, business, and government leaders in the province.
Andrew Hessel completed their Msc in biology at the University of Calgary.
