Emily Voshell currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the Special Litigation Division at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, a position held since June 2022. Prior to this role, Voshell worked at KaiserDillon PLLC as Counsel and Pro Bono Coordinator, representing clients in both criminal defense and civil matters while also coordinating pro bono cases from October 2017 to June 2022. Voshell's experience includes serving as a Special Litigation Attorney at the Public Defender Service from October 2014 to October 2017, where complex pre-trial and post-conviction motions were drafted and argued. Additionally, at Orleans Public Defenders from September 2009 to September 2014, Voshell supervised and represented numerous clients in various felony and misdemeanor cases, including jury and judge trials. Early legal experience includes positions as a law clerk at The Legal Aid Society of NYC and Fair Trial Initiative, supporting attorneys in juvenile delinquency and death penalty cases, respectively. Voshell holds a Doctor of Law from New York University School of Law and a Bachelor's degree in American Studies from The George Washington University.
