John Sweeney is an accomplished finance professional with extensive experience in higher education and public policy. Currently serving as the Senior Vice President for Finance and Business and Chief Financial Officer at Providence College since March 2010, Sweeney has demonstrated leadership in financial management. In addition, Sweeney held the position of Commissioner at the New England Commission of Higher Education from July 2018 to June 2024, contributing significant service on the Executive Board and leading the Annual Report on Finances and Enrollment Committee. Prior roles include Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration at Eastern Connecticut State University and Principal Budget Specialist at the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, specializing in areas such as Medicaid, public assistance, and education policy. Sweeney earned a BS and MBA in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Connecticut School of Business and completed high school at Norwich Free Academy.
