Fernando Hilário has worked in various roles, starting in 2002 as a Trainee at Tecnasol FGE. From 2006 to 2010, they worked as an Auditing Technician and later as an External Accountant at Horwath HK Consultores de Gestão, Lda. Following that, from 2010 to 2015, they served as a Certified Accountant at CERB - Contabilidade e Gestão, S.A. In 2015, they joined Tropical Marine Centre - Sucursal em Portugal as the Chief of Accounting, and later became the Financial Director in 2016. Currently, since May 2018, they are working as a Finance Controller at Principle Power.

Fernando Hilário earned a Licenciatura in Contabilidade e Administração (Accounting and Administration) from the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa, where they studied from 2002 to 2006. Fernando also has additional certifications including "Outlook 2013: Efficient Email Management" from LinkedIn and "Técnico Oficial de Contas" from the Ordem dos Técnicos Oficiais de Contas. It is not specified when they obtained the "First Certificate in English" from the University of Cambridge.
