S. Jordan Kerns has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and drug discovery. They have held various roles in different companies, starting from their work as a Scientific Intern at The Scripps Research Institute in 1999. Their most recent position is as an Associate Director of Biology at Pretzel Therapeutics, where they lead in vitro cell biology efforts for drug discovery programs targeting oncology and rare diseases. Prior to this, they worked at Emulate, Inc., where they held roles such as Director of Biological Science, Associate Director of Biological Sciences, and Principal Scientist, R&D Lead. They were responsible for leading multidisciplinary drug discovery projects, developing organ-on-chip models, and optimizing intestinal models. Before their time at Emulate, Inc., they worked as a Principal Investigator I at Emulate, Inc., engaging in academic collaborations and coordinating research teams focused on iPSC-derived organ systems. They also have experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wyss Institute | Harvard Medical School | Department of Systems Biology, where they developed engineered diagnostic bacteria. Additionally, they worked as an HHMI Post-Doctoral Fellow at Brandeis University | Biophysics and Structural Biology, studying protein dynamics and enzymes. They obtained their Ph.D. from Brandeis University, where they conducted research on enzyme catalysis and biophysical characterization of recombinant proteins. Their work experience also includes being an Undergraduate Research Assistant at UC San Diego.
