Jean Fréchet

Technical Advisor, Chemistry & Nanotechnology at Pilatus Capital

Fréchet is a chemist and Professor Emeritus at UC, Berkeley. He is the co-inventor of the chemically amplified materials integral to the miniaturization of nearly all electronic devices in the past 25 years. An expert in polymers, he is known for his work on dendrimers, separation media, polymer therapeutics, and other technologies. He has authored nearly 900 scientific papers and holds over 70 patents. After retiring from UC, Berkeley he joined the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in 2010 as its first VP for research. He retired in January 2019 as SVP for research, innovation, and economic development.

He earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from the Institut de Chimie et Physique Industrielles. He received an MS and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and Syracuse University respectively.
