Bruce Barkley has a work experience that spans over several years. Bruce started their career at Progress Energy in 2005 as a Manager in Fuel Forecasting and Regulatory Support. In 2012, they joined Duke Energy Corporation as a Manager of Regulatory Affairs. Most recently, they worked for Piedmont Natural Gas as the VP of Regulatory and Community Relations, starting in 2015.

Bruce Barkley obtained their Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1980 to 1984. Bruce later pursued further education and acquired an MBA degree in Business from Wake Forest University School of Business, studying from 1997 to 1999.
