Hayley Mangelson

Staff Bioinformatics Lead at Phase Genomics

Hayley Mangelson has a diverse work experience in various fields. Hayley is currently working at Phase Genomics, where they started as a Bioinformatics Analyst in May 2019. In this role, they managed and executed computational projects for clients, handling multiple projects simultaneously and utilizing various computational tools and software. Hayley later transitioned to the role of a Bioinformatics Scientist in January 2021 before becoming a Senior Bioinformatics Lead in June 2021.

Prior to Phase Genomics, Hayley worked at Brigham Young University. Hayley started as a Research Animal Caregiver in April 2015, taking care of research animals such as mice, rats, pigeons, and finches. Later, they worked as a Research Assistant in the Product Development laboratory, where they contributed to the development of high-nutrition food products using ancient grains. Hayley also worked as a Research Assistant in the Orphaned Crops Laboratory, conducting research on oat and other ancient grains in collaboration with General Mills. During their time at BYU, Hayley also served as a Graduate Research Assistant, playing a key role in developing and annotating a reference-quality, chromosome-scale assembly of C. pallidicaule and assembling the chloroplast of C.

In addition to their scientific work, Hayley also has experience in customer service and receptionist roles. Hayley worked at Studio 1030 as a Receptionist, where they managed schedules, ran the cash register, maintained cleanliness, and provided excellent customer service. Hayley was also involved in designing service protocols and assisting with stylist interviews.

Before their academic and scientific career, Hayley worked as a Student Worker for the Wheat Breeding Team at Colorado State University, where they assisted in harvesting, cleaning, and sorting seed, sparking their interest in agriculture and plant genetics.

Overall, Hayley Mangelson has demonstrated strong skills in bioinformatics, research, customer service, and team collaboration throughout their work experience.

Hayley Mangelson completed their education with a Master of Science - MS degree in Genetics and Biotechnology from Brigham Young University. Hayley pursued their master's degree from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Genetics and Biotechnology from the same university, studying from 2012 to 2017. Hayley completed their high school education at Fort Collins High School, graduating in 2012. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Tools for Data Science from Coursera in February 2021.
