Ellen Cadigan Mazel

Director Of Development And Research At Perkins CVI Center at Perkins School for the Blind

Ellen Cadigan Mazel has a diverse work experience in the field of education for individuals with visual impairments. Ellen Cadigan has been working at Perkins School for the Blind since 1977, where they started as a Teacher of Adolescents with Deafblindness. Throughout their career at Perkins, they held various roles, including Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments/Deafblindness or Cortical/Cerebral Visual Impairment from 2002 to 2012.

In 2012, Ellen joined the CASE Collaborative as a Teacher, focusing on students with visual impairments, deafblindness, and cortical/cerebral visual impairment. Ellen Cadigan worked there until 2017 when they transitioned to a new role as the CVI Project Manager at Perkins School for the Blind.

Ellen's passion and expertise in the field led their to become the Director of the CVI Project at Perkins in 2019, overseeing the development and research in the CVI field. Additionally, in 2021, they took on the role of Director of Development and Research at Perkins CVI Center.

Alongside their work at Perkins, Ellen has also been an Adjunct Faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston since 2013, where they have been teaching in their area of expertise.

With their extensive experience and dedication to advancing knowledge about CVI, Ellen has consistently collaborated with renowned institutions such as MIT, Children's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School.

Ellen Cadigan Mazel obtained a Bachelor's degree in Special Education and Teaching from Boston College from 1972 to 1976. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Deafblindness and Multiple Disabilities, Vision from Boston College between 1975 and 1977. Prior to their college education, Mazel attended Hingham High School.
