Mikie Kukwikila has a background in scientific research, with a focus on protein sequencing and nucleotide chemistry. They have worked at Oxford Nanopore Technologies since 2017, starting as a Research Scientist in Nucleotide Chemistry before being promoted to a Senior Scientist role in both Nucleotide Chemistry and Protein Sequencing. At Oxford Nanopore Technologies, they have contributed to the development and advancement of technologies and techniques in these areas. Prior to their work at Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Mikie Kukwikila served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Southampton, collaborating with ATDBio Ltd and Prof Ali Tavassoli on a project involving Click Chemistry to assemble synthetic genes and assess their biocompatibility within E. coli. From 2004 to 2008, Mikie attended UCL and earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Medicinal Chemistry.
Following that, from 2008 to 2013, Mikie pursued higher education at UCL and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Biology.
In addition to the formal education, Mikie has also achieved additional certifications. In September 2021, Mikie completed the "Learn Python 3 Course" from Codecademy. Furthermore, in November 2021, Mikie obtained certification in "Project Management Simplified" from LinkedIn.
