João Jorge has a long and varied work experience. In 2021, they became the Sleep Analysis Lead and Senior Research Fellow at Oxehealth. In 2020, they joined The Alan Turing Institute as part of the DECOVID Data Analytics Team. From 2017 to 2021, they worked at the University of Oxford as a NIHR BRC Postdoctoral Research Associate, where they developed and clinically validated algorithms based on patented technology for monitoring vital signs using visible-light and infrared video cameras. In 2018, they became a collaborator at Oxford Artificial Intelligence Society. From 2017 to 2018, they were a Lecturer in Engineering at Looker Education Group, where they lectured pre-university students from secondary schools in China and provided guidance in Oxford admissions (MAT), Cambridge admissions (STEP) and Oxbridge interview training. In 2016, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford. From 2012 to 2017, they were a OUSU and Graduate Representative and VP - Middle Common Room at St Hilda's College, University of Oxford, where they chaired weekly MCR meetings and sat on several college and university-wide committees. In 2011, they were a Project Collaborator at Engineering World Health. From 2006 to 2011, they were a Freelance Translator.
João Jorge attended the Instituto Superior Técnico from 2007 to 2010, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering. João then attended Imperial College London from 2010 to 2011, where they earned a Master of Science (MSc) in Biomedical Engineering (Medical Physics). Finally, they attended the University of Oxford from 2012 to 2016, where they earned a DPhil (PhD) in Biomedical Engineering.
