Than Oo has a diverse work experience, primarily in the field of engineering and project management. Than started their career in 1985 at the Ministry of Rail Transportation in Myanmar, where they served as a Director for over 26 years. In 2017, they joined Oriental Consultants and held various roles, including Deputy Project Manager, Co Project Manager, and currently serves as a Resident Engineer. Throughout their career, Than Oo has showcased their expertise and dedication in the transportation and infrastructure industry.

Than Oo attended the Yangon Institute of Technology from 1969 to 1975, where they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering. Than has also acquired additional certifications including the Certified Professional Engineer (CPE) from the Myanmar Engineering Council in January 2019 and the Certified ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer from the ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer Coordinating Committee in November 2018.
