Richard Ngo

Research Scientist at OpenAI

Richard Ngo is a research scientist at OpenAI since September 2021. Prior to that, they worked at DeepMind as a research engineer from October 2018 to September 2020, and as an AI safety and reinforcement learning intern at the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University in July to September 2018. Richard also had a research and development internship at Medidata Solutions in July to September 2015.

Richard Ngo started their education at King's College, New Zealand in 2008 where they pursued A Levels in various subjects such as Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Economics, and Thinking Skills. From 2014 to 2017, they studied at the University of Oxford, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Philosophy. Richard then attended the University of Cambridge from 2017 to 2018, where they earned a Master of Philosophy degree in Computer Science. Currently, they are pursuing a PhD degree in Philosophy of Machine Learning from the University of Cambridge, which they began in 2020.
