Ben Gaffney is an experienced legal professional currently serving as Deputy General Counsel at OpenAI, leading legal teams focused on AI policy, regulations, and international competition since June 2024. Prior to OpenAI, Ben held the position of SVP & Deputy General Counsel at ServiceNow where responsibilities included overseeing legal teams for patents, privacy, and data security from April 2022 to June 2024. From September 2005 to May 2022, Ben was with Amazon.com, taking on various roles including VP & Associate General Counsel for AWS products, as well as leadership positions in advertising and business development. Earlier in the career, Ben was an associate at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, specializing in IP litigation and technology transactions. Educational qualifications include a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame.
