Yasushi Shingai graduated from the Graduate School of Kyoto University in Engineering and started his career by joining former Japan Tobacco and Salt Corporation, now Japan Tobacco Inc. (“JT”) in 1980. He became President of JT America Inc. in 1990. He undertook a number of joint R&D projects with pharmaceutical and biotechnology start-ups in the US, and served as External Director of the Board at Cell Genesys, Inc., then NASDAQ-listed biotechnology company for 6years. In 2005, he got appointed as a member of JT Board of Directors and CFO . In 2006, he moves to Geneva as Executive Vice President(“EVP”) and Deputy CEO of JT International, and led the acquisition of Gallaher Group Plc. and its PMI process. He became EVP and Representative Director of JT in 2011. He currently serves as Outside Director at Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd., Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc., Dai-ichi Life Holdings, Inc. and ExaWizards Inc. He also served as Outside Director for Recruit Holdings.
