Shaneel Lal is an accomplished Columnist for the New Zealand Herald since August 2022, with extensive experience in advocacy and leadership roles. Holding positions as Trustee at Adhikaar Aotearoa and Executive Board Member at both the Auckland Pride Festival and RainbowYOUTH, Shaneel demonstrates a commitment to supporting marginalized communities. Additionally, Shaneel serves on the Global Youth Taskforce for Amnesty International and is a Co-Founder of the Conversion Therapy Action Group. With a focus on youth engagement, Shaneel acts as a Global Youth Leader for the Open Government Partnership and is part of the Ministerial Youth Advisory Group for the Ministry of Education of New Zealand. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws Conjoint degree in Psychology and Law at The University of Auckland, Shaneel aims to merge academic pursuits with social activism.
