Birk Wollenhaupt

Propulsion System Engineer at OHB SE

Birk Wollenhaupt is an experienced propulsion system engineer currently employed at OHB System since August 2012, where responsibilities include communicating the requirements of electric propulsion systems to satellite subsystems and proposing innovative funding solutions for electric propulsion projects. Prior to this role, Birk served as an ESMO Subteam Advisor at the Institut für Raumfahrtsysteme from October 2009 to June 2012, providing guidance to younger team members about experiences with the European Space Agency and the institute. Birk's academic journey includes a PhD in Electric Propulsion and a Diploma in Aerospace Engineering, both from the University of Stuttgart, along with research focused on thermal arcjet technology from May 2008 to June 2012. Early in Birk's career, involvement in the Google Lunar X Prize project and the Student Space Exploration and Technology Initiative emphasized contributions to innovative aerospace initiatives.
