Cor de Boer has extensive experience in scientific research and project management, currently serving as Project Leader for KIC/NWA programs at NWO since January 2017, focusing on the acquisition and initiation of partnerships. Previous roles at NWO include Head of the Department of Technology for Society and Environment, as well as Head of the Department of People, Environment & Health. Cor de Boer has also been involved with the Topsector Water as a member of the Program Council for TKI Water Technology and held multiple program director positions at Technology Foundation STW from 2000 to 2016, overseeing various scientific clusters. Cor de Boer's academic background includes a PhD in Geophysics from Utrecht University, where the thesis examined rock-magnetic studies, and a Master's degree in Environmental Geochemistry from the same institution. Additional experience includes service as a Corporal in the Mobile Army Surgical Field Hospital.
