Nazir Afzal OBE is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in leadership and advocacy for social justice and safeguarding. Currently serving as the Independent Chair for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Nazir Afzal is conducting an independent review of the regulator's culture as of February 2024. In academic leadership, Nazir Afzal has held the position of Chancellor at the University of Manchester since August 2022. Additionally, Nazir Afzal serves as the Independent Chair for the Catholic Safeguarding Agency and is an International Justice Advisor for Adam Smith International. As a Patron for multiple organizations, including ServiceSix, Karma Nirvana, JAN Trust, Savera National, and Freedom Charity, Nazir Afzal actively supports initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable women and children, particularly within minority and migrant communities. Serving as Chair of the Corporation at Hopwood Hall College since September 2018, Nazir Afzal leads one of the largest further education colleges in Northwest England. Nazir Afzal holds a degree from the University of Birmingham, earned between 1983 and 1987.
