In the past, Wilhelm held executive positions at Ungerboeck Software International and PTC, where they oversaw services and business operations. Wilhelm also has experience at Computervision Deutschland GmbH, Computervision GmbH, Technology Consulting GmbH, and Technische Universität München, where they performed various managerial and consulting roles. Wilhelm's expertise lies in operational excellence, project management, and organizational development.

Wilhelm Steitz obtained their Diplom Ingenieur degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich between 1975 and 1981.
