G. Birkeland is a Board Member at Novaton, and has previously held positions at the Norwegian Offshore Wind Cluster, the Sustainable Energy Norwegian Catapult Centre, the Norwegian Marine & Energy Complex, and UNITECH Energy Group.

Birkeland began their career in 1994 as a Global Raw Material Manager at FMC Corporation. In 2009, they became the Managing Director of Polytec R&D Foundation, and in 2015 they were appointed Director of Uni Research.

In 2016, Birkeland became a Member of the Board at Høgskulen på Vestlandet, and in 2017 they took on the role of Vice President R&D at UNITECH Energy Group.

Birkeland has been a Member of the Board at Helse Fonna HF since January 2009, and Chairman of the Board at MET Centre from December 2009 to June 2017.

G. Birkeland is an aquaculture separation technology expert who attended the University of Stavanger.
