La Toya Hankins has extensive experience in public service and community engagement, currently serving as a Disability Benefits Analyst at the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer since April 2019, where responsibilities include reviewing disability benefit applications and determining eligibility. Previous roles include Retirement Benefit Specialist, Disability Determination Specialist, and Income Maintenance Caseworker, all emphasizing a strong background in benefits evaluation and client communication. In addition to public service, La Toya is an active member of the Black Lesbian Literary Collective as a book reviewer and a published author with two novels examining the lives of African American women. La Toya's professional journey began after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from East Carolina University.
