Risto Murto has served as CEO and CIO of Varma since January 2006 and holds the position of Member of the Board of Directors at Nordea since March 2023. Additionally, Risto Murto is a Member of the Board at Sampo plc, and has been the Chairman of the Board at e2 Tutkimus and Arvopaperimarkkinayhdistys since April 2020 and May 2021, respectively. Involvement in the Finnish National Opera and Ballet as a Member of the Supervisory Board began in May 2016. Risto also served as Vice Chairman of the Board at Wärtsilä from March 2014 to March 2023 and was a member of the Advisory Board at the VATT Institute for Economic Research from January 2016 to December 2021. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Economics from Aalto University and an M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Oulu.
