Melanie Hayden is an environmental researcher at NIWA since October 2022, with a strong commitment to marine sustainability and fishery compliance in the Auckland region. Prior to this role, Melanie served as a Fisheries Analyst at the Ministry for Primary Industries from January 2021 to September 2022, and held various positions including Graduate Fisheries Analyst and Graduate Fishery Officer. Additional experience includes roles such as Animal Health and Welfare Graduate and Tuakana Coordinator at The University of Auckland, alongside internships and ambassador roles with Sustainable Coastlines and BLAKE. Melanie's educational background comprises a Master of Science in Marine Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, both from The University of Auckland, along with NCEA level 3 from Papamoa College.
