Matt Torigian has a strong background in public safety and law enforcement. Matt most recently served as the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) for Niche Technology, starting in July 2019. Prior to that, they were the Distinguished Fellow Director of Global Policing at the Global Justice Lab, Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, starting in October 2018.
From June 2014 to October 2018, Torigian held the position of Deputy Minister/Deputy Solicitor General at the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Before that, they were the Chief of Police for the Waterloo Regional Police Service, starting in December 2007 and ending in June 2014.
During their tenure as Chief of Police, Torigian also served as the President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police from June 2011 to June 2012.
Matt Torigian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University, which they obtained from 1979 to 1982. Matt later pursued a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Local Government at Western University from 2002 to 2005. In 2006, they received a Justice Studies Certificate in Criminal Justice and Safety Studies from the FBI National Academy Session #227.
