Walter Fernandez Rojas

Director at NIC Costa Rica

President of the Board of Directors of the NIC Costa Rica Unit. Promoter of the creation and current President of the National Academy of Sciences. He was President of the Board of Directors of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (Conicit) and member of the Science and Technology Advisory Council of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT).

Promoter of the Geophysical Research Center and the Postgraduate Program in Physics and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of Costa Rica, he has also served as President of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Physics Center (CLAF), President of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), President of the College of Physicists and Coordinator of the Earth and Space Sciences Group of the XXI Century Strategy.

He graduated in Physics and Meteorology at the University of Costa Rica, obtained an M.Sc. in Meteorology at Saint Louis University, United States, and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of London (Imperial College) in the United Kingdom.
