Lydia Smith has extensive experience in agricultural research and innovation, currently serving as the Director of NIAB Innovation Farm and Innovation Hub since 1998. This role involves leading research and demonstration initiatives focused on crop genetic resources agronomy and diversity, fostering farmer interactions, and supporting innovation in the agricultural sector. Previously, Lydia held positions as Head of Innovation Farm and Novel Non Food Crops Programme Leader at NIAB and as Head of Novel and Non Food Crops at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany between 2004 and 2010. Lydia began their academic career as a PhD student at the University of East London, specializing in plant microbial interactions, and holds multiple degrees in plant protection and botany from various esteemed institutions, including the University of Reading and The University of Sheffield.
