Matt Smith currently serves as the Interim Chief Risk Officer at Newbury Building Society, a role assumed in July 2024. Prior to this, Matt worked as a Consultant at OneSavings Bank plc, assisting in a transformation project. As Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham Bank from May 2021 to October 2023, Matt led significant changes, including ownership transitions and strategic implementation. Matt's career has a strong foundation in risk management and financial roles, previously holding director positions at Aldermore Bank and serving in various managerial roles at HSBC Equipment Finance and HSBC. Matt holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies from Birmingham City University and has extensive experience in stakeholder management, credit policy development, and team leadership.
