Michael Kurnellas has extensive work experience in the field of biology and neuroimmunology. Michael is currently working as the Director of Discovery Biology at Neuron23 since May 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Alector from 2016 to 2023, where they held various roles including Associate Director of Neuroimmunology, Staff Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Scientist II. Before joining Alector, Michael was associated with Stanford University School of Medicine from 2009 to 2016, where they served as a Research Associate and a Postdoctoral Fellow. Michael also worked at UMDNJ from 2004 to 2009, where they were a Predoctoral Fellow and a Research Teaching Specialist V. Additionally, they worked as a Research Assistant at Monell Chemical Senses Center from 2000 to 2002.
Michael Kurnellas received their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Neuroscience from Drew University in the years 1996 to 2000. Michael then pursued their Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Biomedical Sciences at UMDNJ from 2002 to 2004. Following that, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience from UMDNJ and Rutgers University between 2004 and 2009.
