Francesco Fanelli

AUV Systems Software Team Lead at National Oceanography Centre

Francesco Fanelli is an experienced software engineer currently working at the National Oceanography Centre since October 2018, focusing on the development of onboard autonomy systems for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles. Prior to this role, Francesco served as a postdoctoral researcher at Università degli Studi di Firenze from November 2017 to October 2018, concentrating on navigation and control of survey and inspection Autonomous Underwater Vehicles. Additional positions at Università degli Studi di Firenze involved software development and testing for underwater vehicles, including navigation algorithms and acoustic bridging strategies. Francesco completed a Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering at Università degli Studi di Firenze from 2014 to 2017, following a second-level degree in Electrical and Automation Engineering and a first-level degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
