Patrick Bourret Smith is an experienced engineer specializing in vehicle safety research, currently working at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since September 2015. In the Structures and Restraints Division of the Crashworthiness Office, Patrick focuses on pedestrian impact testing. Previously, Patrick contributed to the New Car Assessment Program by performing crash tests and collecting data for safety analysis. In the Vehicle Dynamics Division, Patrick served as a rulemaking engineer, providing regulatory expertise and drafting notices for public review. Before joining NHTSA, Patrick worked at MGA Research Corporation, overseeing test programs and leading dynamic crash tests across various industries. Patrick began a career in engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
