Rick McHugh is a seasoned attorney with extensive experience in employment law and public benefits. Currently serving as Senior Staff Attorney at the National Employment Law Project since May 2000, McHugh provides technical advice on unemployment insurance law and policy to various stakeholders and engages in legislative drafting and report preparation. Previously, McHugh held the position of Senior Staff Attorney at the Michigan Poverty Law Program from 1998 to 2000, focusing on family law and public benefits related to domestic violence and Medicaid expansion. McHugh's career began at the UAW Legal Department, where from 1984 to 1995, responsibilities included litigation related to duty of fair representation and unemployment insurance, along with staff education initiatives. McHugh holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wabash College.
