Pete Nelson

Director Of Communications, Gulf Research Program at National Academy of Sciences

Pete Nelson is an experienced communications professional currently serving as the Director of Communications for the Gulf Research Program at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine since July 2021. In addition, Pete has been the Principal at Nelson and Associates, LLC since May 2018. Previously, Pete held the position of Director of Communications at Resources for the Future from 2008 to April 2018 and served in the same capacity for the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling from June 2010 to March 2011. Earlier in their career, Pete was the Editor in Chief at Greenwire from April 1991 to October 1992. Pete holds a Master of Public Management degree from the University of Maryland and has an educational background from McGill University.
