Lynda O'Brien is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in privacy, data protection, and research contracts. Currently serving as the Head of Privacy and acting Head of Legal at Murdoch Children's Research Institute since July 2018, Lynda has been the Privacy and Data Protection Officer since 2021 and has contributed as Senior Legal Counsel for the GenV project. Prior to MCRI, Lynda served as Legal Counsel at CSIRO from November 2006 to June 2018, engaging with various sectors including Health and Biosecurity, and was actively involved in commercialisation transactions. Before CSIRO, Lynda was Senior Legal Counsel for Research Contracts at the University of Melbourne, overseeing research agreements and intellectual property matters. Lynda began their career as a Solicitor at White SW Computer Law, specializing in commercial law for the IT and telecommunications industries. Lynda holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Melbourne.
